These recognitions commemorate the remarkable longevity and shared journey of two distinguished Malaysians whose lives have been closely intertwined with significant chapters of Malaysia’s modern history.
Celebrating Two Remarkable Centenarian Milestones
July and August 2026 marked a particularly meaningful period for Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah.
Tun Dr Mahathir celebrated his 101st birthday on 10 July 2026, followed by Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s 100th birthday on 12 July 2026. The couple subsequently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on 5 August 2026, having been married since 1956.
Tun Dr Mahathir served as Malaysia’s Prime Minister across two non-consecutive terms, from 1981 to 2003 and again from 2018 to 2020, amounting to 24 years in office.
Throughout those years, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah accompanied him as the nation’s first lady while establishing her own distinguished legacy through her contributions to medicine, public health, education, and social causes.
A Shared Journey Across Seven Decades
Beyond their respective public roles, the two recognitions also celebrate an extraordinary personal journey spanning seven decades of marriage.
Their partnership has accompanied periods of significant social, economic, and national development in Malaysia, while their respective contributions have made them enduring figures in the country’s history.
Reaching the ages of 101 and 100 respectively, while celebrating 70 years of marriage, adds another remarkable chapter to their shared journey.
Rigorous Verification Behind the Recognitions
The records underwent ASEAN Records’ adjudication methodology involving independent research, documentary verification, and competitive benchmarking against publicly documented achievements across the ASEAN region.
Following the adjudication and verification process, no publicly documented equivalent achievement was identified across the region at the time of certification.
A Milestone Moment of Acknowledgement
The ASEAN Records certificates were officially presented on 11 August 2026 at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya, following the completion of the adjudication and regional verification process.
The certificates were conferred upon Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah binti Mohd Ali, commemorating their respective centenarian milestones and extraordinary chapters of public and personal life.
The certificates were presented by YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, Chairman of the Advisory Board, accompanied by Ms Gillian Ooi and Mr Eldrick Koh, representing ASEAN Records.
