Himalaya Sports Achieves ASEAN Record for Largest Pixiu Statue

ASEAN’s Largest Pixiu Statue – 16.8ft Tall, 688 Kilograms, Constructed from High-Density Polystyrene

Himalaya Sports Management (Malaysia) have been officially recognized by ASEAN Records for their extraordinary achievement in creating the largest Pixiu statue in the ASEAN region. Standing at an impressive 16 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 688 kilograms, the Pixiu statue is meticulously crafted from high-density polystyrene. This monumental sculpture, affectionately nicknamed “Fatt Cai,” “发财貔貅” symbolizes wealth and prosperity and now holds the title of the largest outdoor Pixiu statue in ASEAN.

The statue was unveiled in a ceremonial “ascension” at the entrance of Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) in Malacca, facing eastward. The event was graced by dignitaries including Datuk Wira Gan Tian Loo, Chairman of the Jonker Street Cultural and Heritage Committee, and Datuk Wira Tey Kok Kiew, State Assemblyman for Kota Laksamana.

A Testament to Cultural Heritage and Craftsmanship

“We are honored to have our efforts officially acknowledged by ASEAN Records,” said Datuk Kenny Low, Managing Director of Himalaya Sports Management. “This accomplishment reflects our dedication to preserving and promoting cultural heritage through innovative craftsmanship. We hope ‘Fatt Cai’ becomes a symbol of prosperity and a popular attraction for both locals and tourists.”

The project, sponsored by Himalaya Sports and executed by GL Advertising & Design Sdn Bhd, took five months to complete. It is part of the Chinese New Year decorations aimed at enhancing the festive atmosphere and promoting cultural tourism in Malacca.


About the Pixiu Statue

The Pixiu is a mythical creature in Chinese culture, believed to attract wealth and ward off evil. The creation of this record-breaking statue not only adds to the cultural richness of Southeast Asia but also serves as a testament to the region’s artistic and innovative spirit.

The ASEAN Records was officially launched today during the grand 2nd ASEAN Festival 2024, a four-day cultural festival held at GEM Box, Nilai. This monumental launch marks a new era in celebrating and documenting the extraordinary achievements within the ASEAN region, further strengthening regional unity and showcasing excellence.

Founded by Eldrick Koh and Gillian Ooi, ASEAN Records aims to honor exceptional achievements within the ASEAN community, encompassing individual, organizational, and collective contributions. With a commitment to fairness, credibility, and transparency, ASEAN Records sets a new standard for recognizing milestones that shape and inspire the region.

ASEAN Records was officially approved by the ASEAN Secretariat on 1st December 2023, reinforcing its legitimacy as a trusted platform for honoring achievements across the region. The initiative focuses on measurable milestones that highlight contributions in areas such as cultural heritage, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Philippines proudly announces its triumphant presence in this year’s Condé Nast Traveler (CNT) Top 10 Readers’ Choice Awards, with three of its iconic island destinations claiming top spots. Boracay, Palawan, and Siargao have clinched third, sixth, and tenth place, respectively, in the prestigious luxury and lifestyle travel magazine’s rankings, the Department of Tourism (DOT) revealed today.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco shared the exciting news, emphasizing the enduring allure of these world-renowned islands among global travelers. “We welcome the resounding message to tourists from around the world saying: they Love the Philippines! From the charm of our islands, pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, lush landscapes, rich heritage and culture, and the excellent hospitality of the Filipino people, the exceptional hospitality and excellence of these islands have always resonated,” she exclaimed.

The rankings were determined through an online survey, which saw the participation of a staggering 600,000 readers. Boracay, with 90.74 points, secured the third spot in Asia, closely followed by Palawan with 89.71 points, and Siargao, earning 87.37 points in readers’ votes.

Reflecting on this achievement, Secretary Frasco stated, “This acknowledgment motivates us to persist in our efforts to elevate the Philippines as a premier travel destination in Asia and the world. Our commitment to sustainable practices has not only captivated the hearts of travelers but has also contributed significantly to the growth of our nation’s tourism industry.”

Boracay and Palawan, familiar faces in this prestigious list, had made appearances in the previous years. Last year, Boracay secured the top position among Asian islands, with Palawan claiming the eighth spot.

This recognition underlines the Philippines’ dedication to offering unparalleled travel experiences, combining natural wonders with warm Filipino hospitality. As the world reopens post-pandemic, the Department of Tourism remains steadfast in its mission to showcase the diverse beauty of the Philippines to travelers worldwide.

The article described George Town, the capital of the Malaysian island Penang, as a Unesco World Heritage Site with lively street art and even more famed street food.

“If it’s an architectural eye candy you’re after, head to Jalan Kek Chuan to peruse the ornately detailed shops that blend Eastern and Western designs,” it added.

Meanwhile, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin believed this recognition would bring a profound impact on Penang’s local economy and the tourism industry as a whole.

“It gives me great pleasure to share with you that our very own local street – Kek Chuan Road, has been accredited as the top 17th of the most beautiful streets in the world.

“Amidst countless breathtaking destinations across the globe, the humble street of our state has emerged as a shining gem, captivating the hearts of visitors from every corner of the world,” he added.

Yeoh said Penang could expect an influx of curious travellers, eager to witness the state’s very-own Kek Chuan Road in Penang.
