GoRental Recognised by ASEAN Records for Powering the Largest Outdoor Exhibition End-to-End with Portable Battery Energy Storage Systems

Three people pose with a tall gold-framed award plaque at an ASEAN Records event against an orange backdrop.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise GoRental for achieving a significant regional milestone as the:

Largest Outdoor Exhibition Powered End-to-End by Portable Battery Energy Storage Systems
(992.16 kWh delivered over 36 operating hours; 82 units deployed across 55 open-air booths; ~803 kg CO₂e avoided against a diesel-generator baseline; Outdoor Expo Malaysia, 7–9 August 2026)

This achievement reflects GoRental’s commitment to advancing cleaner and more efficient temporary power solutions, demonstrating the practical potential of portable battery energy storage systems for large-scale outdoor events across the ASEAN region.

Transforming Temporary Event Power Through Battery Technology

During Outdoor Expo Malaysia 2026, held from 7 to 9 August at Titiwangsa Stadium, GoRental deployed a large-scale network of portable Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support open-air exhibition booths and event activities throughout 36 operating hours.

The systems collectively delivered 992.16 kWh of electricity, supporting a diverse programme that included outdoor adventure showcases, climbing demonstrations, survival workshops, product launches, educational sessions, family attractions, and live stage activities.

By replacing conventional generator-dependent temporary power with portable battery systems, the deployment demonstrated that major outdoor events can operate reliably while providing a quieter and more comfortable environment for exhibitors, visitors, workers, and surrounding communities.

Reducing Diesel Reliance and Environmental Impact

Beyond operational reliability, the deployment delivered measurable environmental benefits.

Against a conventional diesel-generator baseline, the project avoided approximately 803 kg of CO₂e emissions, while also reducing the exhaust, noise, and fuel consumption normally associated with temporary generator infrastructure.

Through this approach, GoRental aims to encourage event organisers and stakeholders to consider battery-powered temporary energy as a practical alternative for events, campsites, construction environments, commercial operations, and other high-demand applications.

A Milestone Moment of Acknowledgement

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 9 August 2026 at Titiwangsa Stadium, during the closing programme of Outdoor Expo Malaysia 2026.

The recognition was received on stage by Colin Peh, Managing Director & Founder of GoRental, and was witnessed by YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, representing the company’s commitment to advancing cleaner, quieter, and more efficient temporary power solutions.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition, Witness Lee, Business Development Manager of GoRental, shared:

“This ASEAN Records recognition demonstrates that portable battery energy storage can support large-scale outdoor events reliably while also creating a cleaner and quieter environment.

For us, this achievement is not only about the scale of the deployment. It is about showing event organisers and businesses that there is a practical alternative to conventional diesel-powered temporary energy.

We hope this milestone encourages wider adoption of cleaner power solutions across events and industries throughout ASEAN.”

CryoCord Recognised by ASEAN Records for Culturing 1.71 Trillion Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Four people in formal attire pose on stage, holding a large framed award plaque reading ASEAN Records in front of a cityscape backdrop.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise CryoCord for achieving the milestone:

First and Most Mesenchymal Stem Cells Cultured by a Private Stem Cell Bank Laboratory (Storage service first launched 2009; MSC culturing commenced November 2008; 1.71 trillion MSCs cumulatively cultured as of November 2025)

The recognition acknowledges CryoCord’s sustained work in mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) cultivation, beginning in November 2008 and reaching a cumulative total of approximately 1.71 trillion MSCs as of November 2025.

The achievement reflects more than 17 years of continuous laboratory activity in this specialised field and marks an important milestone in CryoCord Group’s development from stem cell banking into a broader cell and gene therapeutics organisation.

Building More Than Two Decades of Experience in Cell and Gene Technologies

Established in 2002, CryoCord Group is headquartered at the Bio-X Centre in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Over more than two decades, the group has expanded from cord blood banking into areas spanning mesenchymal stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), natural killer (NK) cells, CAR T-cell technologies, regenerative medicine research, and advanced cell processing.

CryoCord commenced MSC culturing in November 2008, followed by the launch of a range of mesenchymal stem cell storage services in 2009, including CordMSCs, MarrowMSCs, AdiMSCs, and ToothMSCs.

Since then, the organisation has continued to build its technical capabilities, laboratory infrastructure, research activities, and specialised workforce while expanding its presence beyond Malaysia.

According to its company profile, CryoCord Group has stored more than 70,000 biological samples and operates across Malaysia and Indonesia, including laboratory operations in Jakarta.

Reaching 1.71 Trillion Mesenchymal Stem Cells

CryoCord’s cumulative laboratory records updated through November 2025 show that the organisation had cultured 1,713,032.8 million mesenchymal stem cells, equivalent to approximately 1.71 trillion cells.

The cumulative total comprises 949,122.4 million allogeneic and customised CordMSCs, 763,012.3 million Infant CordMSCs, and 898.1 million ToothMSCs.

Together, these figures form the measurable basis of the ASEAN Records recognition.

Importantly, the recognised figure represents the cumulative number of MSCs cultured over the stated period rather than the number of biological samples stored. It documents the scale and continuity of CryoCord’s MSC cultivation activities from November 2008 through November 2025.

Expanding into Advanced Cell and Gene Technologies

CryoCord’s development has extended beyond conventional stem cell banking as the organisation continues to broaden its capabilities in cell and gene technologies.

Its current areas of activity include mesenchymal stem cells, natural killer cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, CAR T-cell technologies, extracellular particles, regenerative medicine research, and other advanced therapy-related technologies.

The group’s company profile also documents 15 granted patents, comprising three United States patents and 12 Malaysian patents, together with contributions to more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

CryoCord’s facilities include cGMP laboratory capabilities and cleanroom infrastructure supporting specialised cell-processing activities. Its company profile states that the laboratory is accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) and cGMP-certified in accordance with requirements regulated by Malaysia’s National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).

These capabilities reflect the organisation’s progression from biological sample storage towards a wider role in cell processing, research, manufacturing, and the responsible translation of emerging cell technologies.

Supporting Research and Responsible Clinical Translation

The development of cell and gene technologies requires careful progression from laboratory research to preclinical studies and appropriately conducted clinical research.

CryoCord’s company milestones document its involvement in Ministry of Health Malaysia-approved clinical research involving mesenchymal stem cells as well as subsequent work involving CAR T-cell technologies. Its research activities have also included collaborations with Malaysian universities and medical institutions.

The organisation’s focus on translational research aligns with a wider movement within regenerative medicine to develop scientific discoveries through structured research, regulatory oversight, quality systems, and responsible clinical evaluation.

The ASEAN Records recognition relates specifically to CryoCord’s cumulative MSC cultivation milestone and does not represent a claim regarding therapeutic efficacy, clinical superiority, or treatment outcomes.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 6 August 2026 during the Cell & Gene Therapy Congress 2026, held at The Vertical, Connexion Conference & Event Centre, The Summit 1 Ballroom, Kuala Lumpur.

Held from 6 to 8 August 2026 under the theme “Translating Research to Real World Therapy,” the congress brought together clinicians, scientists, researchers, industry partners, and policymakers to discuss developments in cell and gene therapy, including translational research, clinical applications, regulatory considerations, ethics, safety, and emerging technologies.

The recognition was received by James Then Khong Lek, Managing Director of CryoCord Group, together with Don Calaki, Head of AI and Digital Systems at CryoCord Group.

The presentation was witnessed by Guest of Honour Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman, Chancellor of International Medical University and Clinical Advisor to the Minister of Health of Malaysia.

The occasion was particularly relevant to CryoCord’s recognised milestone as the congress placed significant focus on mesenchymal stem and stromal cells, with scientific sessions covering their biology, production, clinical translation, regulation, emerging applications, and future development.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition and CryoCord’s journey, James Then Khong Lek, Managing Director of CryoCord Group, shared:

“This recognition is meaningful not only for CryoCord, but also for Malaysia. Over more than 20 years, we have continued to invest in the stem cell field, beginning with cord blood storage and later expanding into mesenchymal stem cells and other areas of cell technology. Reaching this milestone reflects the effort our team has put into building our capabilities and maintaining the quality of our work over the years.

“Malaysia has also made significant progress in regenerative medicine and biotechnology. We have a well-established healthcare system, an increasingly strong pool of talent coming through our universities, a supportive regulatory environment, and a growing number of GMP laboratories. These strengths give Malaysia good potential to continue developing its cell and gene technology capabilities and to participate more actively on the international stage.

“Looking ahead, CryoCord will continue investing in research, from laboratory studies and preclinical work through to carefully conducted clinical research. We are also continuing to develop our capabilities in newer areas of cell and gene technology. These fields require careful and responsible progress, particularly when translating research into clinical studies, and that is an area we intend to continue supporting for the long term.”

His remarks reflect CryoCord’s continued focus on scientific research, technical development, quality, and responsible clinical translation, while also highlighting Malaysia’s growing capabilities in regenerative medicine and cell and gene technology.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Cell and Gene Technology Ecosystem

CryoCord’s recognition highlights the sustained laboratory infrastructure, scientific expertise, quality systems, and technical processes required to culture mesenchymal stem cells consistently over an extended period.

From the commencement of MSC cultivation in November 2008 to a cumulative 1.71 trillion cells by November 2025, the milestone documents more than 17 years of specialised laboratory activity.

It also comes as Malaysia continues to develop its capabilities across biomedical research, university training, laboratory infrastructure, regulatory oversight, and clinical research.

The Cell & Gene Therapy Congress 2026 further reflected this development by bringing together local and international specialists to examine areas including mesenchymal stromal cells, emerging cell-based technologies, clinical trials, regulatory frameworks, patient safety, and the translation of research into real-world applications.

Through its continuing investment in laboratory research, manufacturing capabilities, specialised technologies, and clinical translation, CryoCord aims to contribute to the development of Malaysia’s cell and gene technology ecosystem while supporting responsible progress within the wider regional biotechnology sector.

About CryoCord

CryoCord Group is a Malaysian cell and gene therapeutics organisation established in 2002 and headquartered at the Bio-X Centre in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

The group has evolved from a cord blood storage provider into an integrated biotechnology organisation with activities spanning stem cell and immune cell banking, mesenchymal stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, natural killer cells, CAR T-cell technologies, regenerative medicine research, cell processing, and clinical translation.

CryoCord Group has stored more than 70,000 biological samples, secured 15 granted patents, comprising three United States patents and 12 Malaysian patents, and contributed to more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications.

As of November 2025, CryoCord had cumulatively cultured approximately 1.71 trillion mesenchymal stem cells, forming the basis of its official recognition by ASEAN Records.

Dr A Hair Loss Solutions Recognised by ASEAN Records for Introducing a Structured Hair Assurance Programme

Three men pose with a large gold-framed certificate at an ASEAN Records event, smiling for the camera.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise Dr A Hair Loss Solutions for achieving the milestone:

First Multi-Entity Hair Wellness Group to Introduce a Structured Hair Assurance Programme (8 sessions; complimentary provision of up to 2,500 grafts under written terms and conditions; single flagship centre; launched August 2026)

This recognition highlights the group’s structured approach to hair and scalp wellness through a programme that combines personalised treatment planning, a defined eight-session journey, and written assurance terms designed to provide clients with greater clarity and confidence.

Launched in August 2026, the Hair Assurance Programme reflects Dr A Hair Loss Solutions’ commitment to delivering organised, transparent, and individually tailored support for people experiencing hair thinning, hair loss, and scalp concerns.

A Personalised Approach to Hair and Scalp Wellness

Dr A Hair Loss Solutions provides personalised hair and scalp treatments to help restore healthier, stronger, and fuller-looking hair.

Combining advanced hair science with proven treatment solutions, the centre develops customised treatment plans based on each client’s individual needs and concerns. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, every client undergoes a professional consultation to assess hair condition, scalp health, and treatment suitability before receiving a personalised care programme.

The centre focuses exclusively on hair and scalp treatments, allowing its team to concentrate its expertise on this specialised field. By dedicating its services solely to hair wellness, Dr A Hair Loss Solutions aims to provide clients with focused professional care and the best possible treatment experience.

Services also include AI-assisted scalp analysis, enabling clients to better understand the condition of their hair and scalp before deciding on an appropriate treatment plan. During the flagship centre’s opening, the first 100 clients were offered complimentary AI scalp analysis as part of the launch promotion.

Introducing a Structured Hair Assurance Programme

At the centre of the recognition is the Hair Assurance Programme, a structured treatment framework consisting of eight sessions conducted at the group’s flagship centre.

Designed for individuals seeking non-invasive and alternative hair wellness solutions, the programme focuses on personalised hair and scalp treatments before clients consider more clinical procedures.

Under the applicable written terms and conditions, clients who complete the required programme but do not experience the specified hair-growth outcome may receive a complimentary hair transplant procedure of up to 2,500 grafts at the group’s clinical facility in Kuala Lumpur.

This structured approach provides clients with greater transparency regarding their treatment journey while reflecting the organisation’s commitment to delivering confidence through clearly documented programme terms and personalised care.

Supporting Confidence Through Individualised Care

Hair loss can affect more than physical appearance. For many individuals, it can also influence confidence, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.

Guided by its philosophy of “Restore Your Confidence,” Dr A Hair Loss Solutions believes effective hair wellness begins with understanding each individual’s concerns before recommending suitable treatment options.

Through personalised consultations, professional guidance, and structured treatment programmes, the organisation aims to help clients regain healthier hair while rebuilding confidence throughout their wellness journey.

Opening the First Flagship Centre in Ipoh

The recognition was presented in conjunction with the grand opening of the Dr A Hair Loss Solutions flagship centre in Ipoh on 1 August 2026.

The new flagship centre represents the organisation’s first dedicated hair wellness centre outside its established clinical hair transplant services at ALPS Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, marking an important expansion into specialised non-invasive hair and scalp treatments.

Ipoh was selected following significant demand and enquiries from existing and prospective clients in the region. According to Dr. Mohamed Asraf, the new centre serves as the first step in the company’s long-term expansion strategy, with plans to establish additional centres across Malaysia in the future.

The event included the official opening ceremony, a tour of the treatment facilities, and an introduction to the centre’s personalised hair wellness services and the newly launched Hair Assurance Programme.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 1 August 2026 at the Dr A Hair Loss Solutions flagship centre in Ipoh, Perak.

The recognition was received by Dr. Mohamed Asraf, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dr A Hair Loss Solutions, in acknowledgement of his leadership in developing and introducing the structured Hair Assurance Programme.

The presentation was witnessed by Alif Satar, Brand Ambassador for Dr A Hair Loss Solutions and a popular Malaysian singer, actor, and television host, together with Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, Chairman of the Advisory Board of ASEAN Records. Alif Satar’s presence reflected his support for the brand’s vision of providing a distinctive and personalised hair wellness experience through its new flagship centre in Ipoh.

The occasion marked an important milestone in the organisation’s continued efforts to introduce structured, transparent, and client-centred innovations within Malaysia’s growing hair wellness industry.

Brand Ambassador Perspective

Reflecting on his experience with the brand, Alif Satar, Brand Ambassador for Dr A Hair Loss Solutions, shared:

“I feel truly grateful and honoured to be here for the opening of the first flagship centre of Dr A Hair Loss Solutions. From the very beginning, I was impressed by Dr. A’s vision, and today it’s inspiring to see that vision become a reality.

I’ve personally experienced the journey towards healthier hair, and what stood out to me was how different the overall experience feels. From the environment to the consultation and treatment process, it’s something that is difficult to describe in words. I believe anyone facing hair concerns should come and experience it for themselves.”

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Mohamed Asraf, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dr A Hair Loss Solutions, shared:

“At Dr A Hair Loss Solutions, our focus has always been on providing personalised care that responds to each client’s individual hair and scalp condition. Hair concerns can have a meaningful effect on confidence, so we believe clients should receive clear guidance, structured support, and treatment plans designed around their specific needs.

What makes our approach different is the Hair Assurance Programme. Under the applicable written terms and conditions, clients who complete the required hair treatment programme but do not experience the expected hair-growth outcome may receive a complimentary hair transplant procedure of up to 2,500 grafts at our Kuala Lumpur clinical facility.

Opening our first hair wellness centre in Ipoh is an important step for us. We received many enquiries and requests from clients in this area, and we believe Ipoh has strong potential. This is only the beginning, as we hope to expand to more states across Malaysia in the future.

Our centre is fully focused on hair and scalp care. By concentrating on this specialised area, we aim to provide each client with more relevant guidance, personalised treatment options, and the best possible support throughout their hair wellness journey.”

Polis Diraja Malaysia Officially Recognised by ASEAN Records for the Largest National Police Force Personnel Deployment to a Single Host Country Across Its Full Sequence of United Nations Missions

Group of men in formal attire posing on stage at an ASEAN Records awards ceremony, holding framed certificates in front of a celebratory backdrop with fireworks and text.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) for achieving the milestone:

Largest National Police Force Personnel Deployment to a Single Host Country Across Its Full Sequence of United Nations Missions (2,620 personnel deployed to one host country from June 1999 to December 2012; 609 individual police across five successive UN missions and 2,011 Formed Police Unit personnel across 14 contingent rotations)

This recognition honours the sustained contribution of PDRM personnel to United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting more than a decade of continuous service, professional commitment, and operational readiness in support of international peace and security.

A Longstanding Commitment to International Peacekeeping

Since Malaysia became a member of the United Nations in 1957, the country has consistently supported international efforts to preserve peace and global stability. Within this wider national commitment, Polis Diraja Malaysia has played a vital role by deploying highly trained police personnel to peacekeeping missions in conflict-affected and post-conflict environments around the world.

PDRM’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions began in 1991 in Angola, marking the start of more than three decades of continuous contribution to global peace and security. Since then, Malaysian police officers have served in 13 United Nations peacekeeping missions, undertaking responsibilities that extend beyond law enforcement to include peacebuilding, institutional development, civilian protection, and post-conflict recovery.

The recognised record specifically honours PDRM’s continuous deployment to a single host country between June 1999 and December 2012, involving 2,620 personnel. This total comprised 609 individual police officers serving across five successive United Nations missions and 2,011 Formed Police Unit (FPU) personnel deployed through 14 contingent rotations, representing the largest personnel deployment by a national police force to a single host country throughout an entire sequence of United Nations missions.

Serving Through Individual and Formed Police Deployments

The achievement reflects the breadth of PDRM’s peacekeeping responsibilities through both Individual Police Officers (IPO) and Formed Police Units (FPU).

Individual police officers contributed specialised expertise in community policing, criminal investigations, institutional capacity building, police training, election security, monitoring, advisory services, operational coordination, and rebuilding public confidence in local law enforcement agencies. Working alongside international partners and local authorities, they helped strengthen policing institutions while supporting communities recovering from conflict.

Complementing these deployments, Formed Police Units provided organised operational capabilities for public order management, critical infrastructure protection, high-risk security operations, escort duties, civilian protection, and emergency response. Across 14 contingent rotations, PDRM personnel consistently demonstrated the discipline, professionalism, and operational readiness required under demanding United Nations standards.

Together, these deployments showcased Malaysia’s ability to contribute both specialist expertise and fully operational police contingents capable of responding to complex international peacekeeping environments.

Professionalism Beyond National Borders

United Nations peacekeeping requires far more than policing expertise. Every deployed officer represents Malaysia, Polis Diraja Malaysia, and the nation’s commitment to international peace, cooperation, and humanitarian service.

Before deployment, officers undergo rigorous selection, assessment, specialised training, and mission preparation to ensure they meet United Nations operational requirements, including leadership, communication, crisis management, cultural awareness, and mission readiness. These preparations enable Malaysian officers to perform effectively in diverse environments while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

The achievement also recognises the personal sacrifices made by officers and their families. Serving in conflict zones often means prolonged separation from loved ones, adapting to unfamiliar cultures, operating under uncertain security conditions, and making difficult decisions in environments where lives and communities depend upon effective leadership.

Documenting More Than Three Decades of Peacekeeping Service

The ASEAN Records recognition coincides with the publication of Misi Pengaman Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu Polis Diraja Malaysia, an official publication documenting more than three decades of PDRM’s involvement in 13 United Nations peacekeeping missions since 1991.

Produced through a collaboration between Polis Diraja Malaysia and UPM Press, the publication chronicles the force’s peacekeeping legacy, covering mission preparation, deployment procedures, operational experiences, leadership, crisis management, international cooperation, and post-conflict policing.

Beyond preserving institutional history, the book captures the sacrifices, resilience, and experiences of Malaysian officers who served under the United Nations flag. It highlights how PDRM personnel navigated complex humanitarian crises, worked across diverse cultural environments, and made critical decisions in challenging operational settings, demonstrating the effectiveness of Malaysia’s policing approach on the international stage.

The publication is intended to serve as a valuable reference for researchers, policymakers, future peacekeepers, and the wider public, ensuring that the operational knowledge, leadership lessons, and peacekeeping experiences accumulated over decades continue to benefit future generations.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 9 July 2026 at Royal Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

The recognition was received by YDH IG Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Hj. Mohd Khalid bin Hj. Ismail, Inspector-General of Police, on behalf of Polis Diraja Malaysia, in acknowledgement of the force’s sustained deployment of 2,620 personnel to a single host country across a complete sequence of United Nations peacekeeping missions from June 1999 to December 2012.

The presentation was witnessed by YBhg. Tan Sri Prof. Datuk Wira Dr. Abdul Latiff bin Abu Bakar, Chairman of the Organising Committee, YBhg. Dato’ Abdul Halim bin Abdul Rahman, Deputy Secretary-General for Security at the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, Chairman of the Advisory Board of ASEAN Records.

The ceremony honoured not only the personnel who served in the recognised missions, but also the generations of PDRM officers, commanders, trainers, planners, administrators, and support teams whose collective efforts enabled Malaysia to sustain one of the region’s most significant police peacekeeping contributions.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on PDRM’s international peacekeeping contribution, YDH IG Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Hj. Mohd Khalid bin Hj. Ismail, Inspector-General of Police, shared:

“This recognition commemorates the service, dedication, and professionalism of the men and women of Polis Diraja Malaysia who represented our nation in United Nations peacekeeping missions. Their responsibilities extended far beyond maintaining public order. They contributed to rebuilding institutions, strengthening communities, and supporting nations recovering from conflict.

Every officer deployed carried the name of Malaysia with honour and demonstrated that professionalism, integrity, compassion, and discipline are values that transcend national borders. Their service reflects PDRM’s unwavering commitment to international peace and security.

This recognition also belongs to the many officers involved in planning, selection, training, logistics, administration, and operational support, as well as to the families whose sacrifices made these missions possible. We hope this achievement will inspire future generations of PDRM personnel to continue serving with courage, integrity, and excellence.”

Advancing Malaysia’s Global Peacekeeping Legacy

PDRM’s sustained participation in United Nations peacekeeping demonstrates Malaysia’s longstanding commitment to international cooperation and collective security.

Through its officers serving as peacekeepers, trainers, advisors, investigators, and Formed Police Unit personnel, PDRM has contributed to restoring public order, strengthening policing institutions, protecting vulnerable communities, and supporting post-conflict recovery in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

This ASEAN Records recognition preserves an important chapter in Malaysia’s policing history while honouring the courage, professionalism, and humanitarian spirit demonstrated by thousands of PDRM personnel who have proudly represented the nation on the global stage.

About Polis Diraja Malaysia

Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) is Malaysia’s national police force, entrusted with maintaining public order, enforcing the law, preventing and investigating crime, safeguarding national security, and protecting communities throughout the country.

Beyond its domestic responsibilities, PDRM has established an internationally respected peacekeeping legacy through its participation in United Nations missions since 1991. Over more than three decades, Malaysian police officers have served in 13 United Nations peacekeeping missions, contributing expertise in community policing, public order management, institutional development, training, civilian protection, and post-conflict stabilisation.

Guided by professionalism, integrity, discipline, and public service, Polis Diraja Malaysia continues to strengthen its role as a trusted national institution while contributing meaningfully to peace, security, and international cooperation both within Malaysia and across the global community.

UPM Press Recognised by ASEAN Records for Malaysia’s First and Largest University Press Collection of Scopus-Indexed Scholarly Books

Group of men in formal attire posing with framed awards on a stage at an ASEAN Records event, with glowing backdrop and logos in the background.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise UPM Press for achieving the milestone:

First and Largest University Press Collection of Scopus-Indexed Scholarly Books in English and Malay (271 scholarly book titles indexed in Scopus as of 21 July 2026 — 192 English-language, 73 Malay language, and 6 bilingual volumes — verified against Scopus landing-page records; a further 20 titles have been approved by Scopus (In Scope) and are awaiting indexing; the first title was indexed on 4 June 2024; spanning multiple academic disciplines)

This recognition reflects UPM Press’ sustained commitment to advancing scholarly publishing and strengthening the international visibility of academic knowledge produced in Malaysia. Through its growing collection of Scopus-indexed books, the university press has demonstrated that high-quality scholarship published in both English and Malay can achieve global discoverability while supporting academic excellence across multiple disciplines.

The recognition honours an outstanding achievement that contributes to the advancement of education, research, and knowledge development across the ASEAN region.

Building International Visibility for University Scholarship

As the publishing arm of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), UPM Press plays an important role in disseminating academic research, intellectual thought, and specialist knowledge through scholarly books and other academic publications.

Its growing collection of Scopus-indexed books provides researchers, academics, students, and institutions with greater access to scholarly works produced across a broad range of disciplines. By making these publications discoverable through one of the world’s leading scholarly databases, UPM Press continues to strengthen the international reach of Malaysian research and academic publishing.

The first title in the recognised collection was indexed on 4 June 2024. Within just over two years, the collection expanded to 271 indexed scholarly books, supported by rigorous editorial processes, peer review, publishing ethics, metadata preparation, and adherence to international indexing standards.

Supporting Scholarship in English and Malay

A defining feature of the achievement is the inclusion of scholarly works published in both English and Malay.

Indexing Malay-language books in Scopus is essential for strengthening the global visibility and impact of Malaysian scholarship. It enables locally produced knowledge to become internationally discoverable, reinforces the quality and credibility of regional academic research through globally recognized standards, and provides non-English-speaking scholars with greater opportunities to engage in international academic discourse while overcoming geographical and linguistic barriers.

The 192 English-language titles strengthen the international reach of research produced through Malaysia’s higher education community. Equally significant is the successful indexing of 73 Malay-language scholarly books and six bilingual volumes, demonstrating that high-quality academic publications in the national language can also achieve international discoverability.

Beyond expanding access to Malaysian scholarship, the achievement represents an important milestone in elevating Bahasa Melayu within global academic publishing. UPM Press became the first publisher in the world to successfully index Malay-language scholarly books in the Scopus database, establishing a new benchmark for multilingual scholarly publishing. The press has also successfully indexed scholarly books in the Indonesian language, further supporting the visibility of regional languages within international academic literature.

Advancing Standards in Scholarly Book Publishing

The recognition also highlights the importance of scholarly books within academic research and knowledge exchange.

While journal articles remain a major component of academic publishing, scholarly books provide opportunities for comprehensive research, in-depth analysis, specialist reference materials, and interdisciplinary knowledge sharing.

Through the successful indexing of its publications, UPM Press has strengthened the international visibility of university-based book publishing while creating wider opportunities for Malaysian scholarship to be discovered, cited, and referenced by researchers around the world.

The additional 20 titles approved by Scopus as “In Scope” further demonstrate the press’ continuing efforts to expand its internationally indexed collection while maintaining high publishing standards.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 23 July 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. The recognition was received by Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan, Director of Pusat Penerbit UPM (UPM Press Centre), in acknowledgement of UPM Press’ achievement in building the first and largest university press collection of Scopus-indexed scholarly books in English and Malay.

The presentation was witnessed by Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka. It formed part of the official programme for the launch of Dari Pendang ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti, the biography of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ayob Khan bin Mydin Pitchay, which was officiated by Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam. The programme also included an address by Tan Sri Ayob Khan, the book launch ceremony, and the formal recognition of UPM Press by ASEAN Records.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition, Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan, Director of Pusat Penerbit UPM, shared:

“This recognition is a proud milestone for UPM Press and has further elevated our standing within the international scholarly publishing community. More importantly, it marks a historic achievement as we became the first publisher in the world to successfully index Malay-language scholarly books in the Scopus database.

We are grateful that Bahasa Melayu is now recognised within one of the world’s leading scholarly indexing platforms. This year, we have also successfully indexed books published in the Indonesian language, reflecting our commitment to increasing the visibility of regional languages in academic publishing.

This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our editorial team, management, authors, reviewers, and the entire Universiti Putra Malaysia community. Together, we have overcome many challenges to reach this milestone, and we remain committed to helping more academics publish high-quality scholarly books that can achieve international recognition while continuing to uphold the value of Bahasa Melayu.”

UPM Press remains committed to strengthening scholarly publishing through rigorous editorial standards while expanding opportunities for high-quality academic books published in both Malay and English to reach researchers and institutions worldwide. The achievement also reinforces the press’ long-term mission of elevating Bahasa Melayu as a language of international scholarship.

Marking the Launch of Dari Pendang ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti

The event also marked the official launch of Dari Pendang ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti, a biography documenting the life, service, and professional journey of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ayob Khan bin Mydin Pitchay.

The book was officially launched by Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka, during the ceremony at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC). Organised with the participation of UPM Press, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Yayasan Generasi Malaysia (YGM), and the National Book Development Foundation, the publication commemorates Tan Sri Ayob Khan’s distinguished career in public service while highlighting the values of integrity and leadership that have defined his professional journey.

The occasion carried additional significance as it coincided with Tan Sri Ayob Khan’s retirement after nearly 35 years of service with the Royal Malaysia Police, making the biography both a tribute to his contributions and a lasting record of his leadership and dedication to the nation.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Scholarly Publishing Landscape

UPM Press’ achievement reflects the growing capability of university presses to contribute to research visibility, institutional reputation, language development, and the broader knowledge economy.

The recognition also demonstrates that international scholarly visibility and the advancement of Bahasa Melayu are complementary goals rather than competing priorities. By successfully bringing Malay-language scholarly books into the Scopus database, UPM Press has created new opportunities for academics to publish research in the national language while ensuring their work remains discoverable by the global research community.

By building one of the world’s most significant collections of Scopus-indexed university press books in multiple languages, UPM Press has strengthened the visibility of Malaysian scholarship while demonstrating that academic excellence and linguistic heritage can advance together. The achievement further positions Malaysia as an important contributor to scholarly publishing across ASEAN and the wider international academic community.

Through editorial excellence, peer review, international indexing initiatives, and a commitment to multilingual scholarly publishing, UPM Press continues to strengthen the global visibility of Malaysian scholarship while advancing the role of Bahasa Melayu and regional languages in international academic publishing.

Looking ahead, UPM Press remains committed to expanding its internationally indexed scholarly publications, fostering global research collaborations, and empowering more academics to publish high-quality scholarly books. As it continues to advance excellence in scholarly publishing, the press aspires to position Malaysia as a leading hub for multilingual academic publishing while further elevating Bahasa Melayu and other regional languages within the global scholarly community.

Four people pose on a red carpet backdrop with a large ASEAN RECORDS sign, holding a gold-framed award plaque and giving thumbs up.

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST) for achieving the milestone:

First Independently-Organised International Film Festival to Feature a Concurrent Annual Film Awards Ceremony and a Standing Regional Cinema Curatorial Programme (9 editions from 2017 to 2026; regional cinema programme launched 2025 with 2 editions by 2026; cross-continental distribution partnership from 2026)

This recognition celebrates MIFFEST’s pioneering role in elevating Malaysia’s international film industry through independent festival programming, global cultural exchange, and the promotion of Asian cinema. By integrating an internationally recognised film festival, an annual film awards ceremony, and a dedicated regional cinema curatorial programme under one independent platform, MIFFEST has established a unique model that strengthens Malaysia’s position as a cultural and cinematic hub within ASEAN.

A Vision to Connect Malaysia with World Cinema

Founded in 2017, the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST) was established with a vision of connecting Malaysian audiences with outstanding international cinema while providing a platform for filmmakers from around the world to engage with regional audiences.

Since its inaugural edition, MIFFEST has grown into one of Southeast Asia’s recognised independent international film festivals, bringing together acclaimed filmmakers, actors, producers, distributors, critics, and cinema enthusiasts from across the globe.

The festival has consistently championed artistic excellence, cross-cultural dialogue, and independent filmmaking, creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration between Malaysian filmmakers and the international film community.

Building an International Platform for Film Excellence

Over nine editions from 2017 to 2026, MIFFEST has continued to expand its international reputation through carefully curated film selections, world and regional premieres, masterclasses, panel discussions, industry networking sessions, and cultural exchanges.

Complementing the festival is the Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA), MIFFEST’s annual film awards ceremony that recognises excellence in international filmmaking across multiple award categories.

The integration of an international film festival and a concurrent annual awards ceremony has enabled MIFFEST to celebrate both cinematic artistry and industry achievement within a single independent platform.

Championing Southeast Asian Cinema Through ASEAN on Screen

In conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, MIFFEST launched ASEAN on Screen, its standing Regional Cinema Curatorial Programme dedicated to showcasing outstanding films and filmmakers from across Southeast Asia.

By 2026, the programme had successfully completed its second edition, reinforcing MIFFEST’s long-term commitment to celebrating regional storytelling, strengthening cultural exchange, and positioning Malaysia as a meeting point for filmmakers throughout ASEAN.

Beginning in 2026, MIFFEST also established a cross-continental distribution partnership, creating new opportunities for selected films to reach audiences beyond the festival circuit while expanding the international visibility of Southeast Asian cinema.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate MIFFEST’s commitment to building sustainable platforms that support regional filmmakers and strengthen ASEAN’s creative presence on the global stage.

Opening the Festival with a Malaysian World Premiere

The opening ceremony concluded with the world premiere of the Malaysian feature film Baga: Tomorrow Belongs To No One at GSC MyTOWN, setting the tone for MIFFEST 2026 and this year’s festival theme, “Resonance.”

Directed by Ariff Zulkarnain and produced by Syafiq Kyle and Syafiq Yusof, the neo-noir drama is set within a conservative fishing village on Malaysia’s East Coast. It follows two young lovers, Jani and Melur, whose hopes for the future are disrupted by an unexpected pregnancy, poverty, addiction, and the difficult realities of their surroundings.

Starring Amir Ahnaf, Amirah Razak, Wan Hanafi Su, Fad Anuar, Mat Over, and Zalif Side, the film draws inspiration from the director’s own upbringing and explores themes of resilience, consequence, and human vulnerability through a deeply Malaysian narrative.

As the opening film of MIFFEST 2026, Baga: Tomorrow Belongs To No One embodied the festival’s commitment to showcasing authentic local stories with universal appeal, demonstrating how Malaysian cinema continues to resonate with audiences both regionally and internationally.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 18 July 2026 during the 9th Malaysia International Film Festival Opening Ceremony held at MyTOWN Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

The recognition was proudly received by Joanne Goh, President of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST), in acknowledgement of her visionary leadership in establishing and growing one of Southeast Asia’s leading independent international film festivals.

The presentation was witnessed by Datuk Monaharan Periasamy, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, reflecting the festival’s growing contribution to Malaysia’s tourism, cultural diplomacy, and creative economy.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition, Joanne Goh, President of the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST), shared:

“On behalf of the Malaysia International Film Festival, I am truly humbled to receive this ASEAN Records recognition.

This honour belongs not only to MIFFEST, but also to every filmmaker, partner, sponsor, volunteer, and supporter who believes in the power of cinema to bring people together.

When we introduced ASEAN on Screen, our vision was simple: to create a lasting platform where the stories of Southeast Asia could be celebrated, discovered, and shared with the world.

Since its launch in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, the programme has grown into an annual platform that brings together filmmakers and films from across the region, with Malaysia serving as a meeting point for dialogue, collaboration, and cultural exchange.

Cinema has the power to transcend borders. Through ASEAN on Screen, we hope to continue strengthening the visibility of Southeast Asian cinema, connecting our diverse voices with wider international audiences, and inspiring future generations of storytellers.

This recognition is not our destination. It is an encouragement for us to continue building meaningful bridges through film.

Thank you for believing in the stories of Southeast Asia.”

Advancing Film Culture Across ASEAN

MIFFEST’s achievement reflects the growing importance of independently organised international film festivals in shaping cultural exchange, creative industries, and regional collaboration.

By combining an annual international film festival, a concurrent film awards ceremony, a standing regional cinema curatorial programme, and international distribution initiatives, MIFFEST has demonstrated how independent cultural organisations can create lasting impact beyond film exhibition alone.

The recognition also highlights Malaysia’s growing influence within the regional and global film industry, contributing to stronger cultural diplomacy while showcasing ASEAN’s rich diversity of cinematic voices to international audiences.

About Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST)

Established in 2017, the Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFEST) is an independently organised international film festival dedicated to celebrating excellence in global and Asian cinema.

Held annually in Malaysia, MIFFEST brings together filmmakers, actors, producers, distributors, industry professionals, and audiences through film screenings, awards presentations, educational programmes, networking opportunities, and cultural exchanges.
