A Famine Camp That Educates, Empowers & Inspires

Organised for the 8th consecutive year, the camp achieved record-breaking status for being the first and largest of its kind — a humanitarian event involving special needs children, orphans, parents, and members of the public, who came together in a shared spirit of empathy and service.

The event also supported World Vision Malaysia’s national campaign “Famine 30: ENOUGH. We Act Now!”, amplifying awareness around child poverty, food waste, and global hunger.

Through experiential activities, participants not only fasted for eight hours but also learned the deep emotional and physical impact hunger has on vulnerable communities. The children, many with learning differences, were guided through reflective games and activities that helped them understand gratitude, compassion, and community values.

Through age-appropriate, hands-on activities including symbolic fasting, educational games, arts and crafts, and awareness workshops by World Vision Malaysia, participants were encouraged to reflect on their global responsibilities and the power of collective compassion. The day culminated in a joyous StarSplash finale, symbolising hope and unity.

Johan Speaking Academy, co-founded by renowned public speaking coaches Johan Ooi and Cherry Ho, has been officially recognized by ASEAN Records for achieving the Most Cumulative Outdoor Public Speaking by Children Aged 5 to 17 Trained by a Single Public Speaking Academy Since 2015, with an outstanding total of 6,869 sessions.

This remarkable milestone was celebrated with an official record presentation held at Zoo Negara, attended by young speakers, parents, media, and supporters of youth education.

Since its founding, Johan Speaking Academy has built an impressive legacy of empowering children to communicate confidently in real-world outdoor environments — including tourist attractions, public parks, shopping malls, and community events. Through hands-on, experiential learning, the academy has helped children conquer stage fright, build character, and discover their authentic voices.
