First Durian-Carrying Run
(5KM distance with one whole durian per runner; 4 editions with first edition in 2019; 1,563 participants across 4 editions).
This achievement reflects Bangi Golf Resort’s creativity in combining sports, tourism, and Malaysia’s iconic King of Fruits, establishing a new benchmark for experiential community events across the ASEAN region.
Bringing Sport and Durian Culture Together
Introduced in 2019, the Bangi Golf Resort Durian-Carrying Run challenges participants to complete a 5-kilometre course while carrying an entire durian throughout the race.
The event has become one of Malaysia’s most distinctive recreational experiences, encouraging creativity through unique durian-carrying methods, colourful costumes, and enthusiastic community participation.
Across four successful editions, the run has attracted 1,563 participants, demonstrating its growing popularity as part of the annual Bangi Golf Resort Durian Festival.
Promoting Malaysia’s Durian Heritage Through Community Engagement
Beyond the race itself, the Bangi Golf Resort Durian Festival has evolved into a celebration of Malaysia’s durian culture, bringing together growers, enthusiasts, families, and visitors through competitions, exhibitions, culinary experiences, and tourism activities.
The annual festival also hosts the Bangi Durian Competition, recognised as the First Regional-Level Durian Competition Since 2018, reinforcing Bangi Golf Resort’s ongoing contribution to promoting Malaysia’s durian heritage and agrotourism.
A Milestone Moment of Acknowledgement
The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 4 July 2026 at Bangi Resort Hotel, marking the formal recognition of Bangi Golf Resort’s record achievement.
The recognition was received on stage by Datuk Zaini Yusoff, Immediate Past Chairperson of REDHA Selangor Branch, together with Tan Ban Keat, Founder of the Bangi Golf Resort Durian Festival & Awards, representing the organising team and community partners behind this pioneering initiative.
