Hot FM Recognised by ASEAN Records for Highest Continuous Live Radio Broadcast from Merdeka 118

ASEAN Records is proud to officially recognise Hot FM for achieving the milestone:

Highest Continuous Live Radio Broadcast from the World’s Second Tallest Building, Merdeka 118 (Level G to Spire Level 16; 566 m above ground; 4 hours 5 minutes uninterrupted; 4 announcers; 18 May 2026)

This recognition marks a major achievement in Malaysian broadcasting, showcasing Hot FM’s creativity, courage, and innovation in taking live radio beyond the studio and onto one of the world’s most iconic architectural landmarks.

Broadcasting Live from the Peak of Merdeka 118

On 18 May 2026, Hot FM created history through its special campaign, #BekpesHotTaklukMerdeka118, broadcasting live from Merdeka 118, Malaysia’s tallest building and the second tallest building in the world.

The broadcast took place from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, bringing listeners along the Bekpes Hot team’s journey across the upper levels of Merdeka 118, from Level 118 to Level 119, before reaching The Spire at 566 metres above ground.

Featuring Hot FM announcers Khairy Jamaluddin, Johan, Fara Fauzana, and AG Azmeer, the mission delivered an unforgettable live radio experience from different locations at the top of the iconic tower.

A Bold Challenge in Live Broadcasting

The achievement was made possible through close collaboration with PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn. Berhad, the owner of Merdeka 118, whose support played an important role in ensuring the mission was carried out smoothly and safely.

Unlike a conventional studio broadcast, the challenge required careful coordination, technical planning, and live transmission stability from one of the highest broadcast locations in the region.

The campaign formed part of Hot FM’s continued series of extreme and unconventional broadcast missions, following previous initiatives such as broadcasting from the ETS, Mount Kinabalu, underwater, and a 420-kilometre cycling journey from Alor Setar to Shah Alam.

Redefining Radio Beyond the Studio

#BekpesHotTaklukMerdeka118 reflects Hot FM’s commitment to creating content that is not only heard, but remembered.

The campaign showcased radio as more than an in-studio medium, positioning Hot FM as an entertainment brand capable of delivering bold, immersive, and meaningful experiences for listeners.

By combining live broadcasting, adventure, national pride, and one of Malaysia’s most recognisable landmarks, the initiative helped elevate local broadcasting while celebrating Merdeka 118 as a symbol of Malaysian achievement.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASEAN Records certificate was officially presented on 18 May 2026 at Merdeka 118, Kuala Lumpur.

The recognition was certified and received by Nazri Noran, Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Audio, together with Hot FM radio personalities Khairy Jamaluddin, Johan, Fara Fauzana, AG Azmeer, and the entire Hot FM team, in acknowledgement of their achievement in advancing innovative live radio broadcasting in the region.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the recognition, Nazri Noran, Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Audio, shared:

“Merdeka 118 is one of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks, and we saw it as the next challenge after our previous broadcasting achievements. After broadcasting from Mount Kinabalu and beneath the sea, we wanted to push ourselves further by taking live radio to the top of Malaysia’s tallest building.

This initiative took nearly a year of planning together with PNB Merdeka Ventures. There were many challenges involved, especially weather conditions, wind, lightning risks, and maintaining stable broadcast lines at such an extreme height.

At Hot FM, we believe broadcasting is more than being inside a studio. We want to continue creating experiences that are exciting, meaningful, and capable of inspiring Malaysians to challenge themselves and do something extraordinary.”

Advancing Innovation in Broadcasting

This milestone reflects the growing evolution of media and entertainment, where audience engagement increasingly extends beyond conventional formats.

By combining live broadcasting with adventure, technical execution, and national landmarks, Hot FM continues to set new benchmarks for creative radio engagement within ASEAN.

Hot FM Makes Waves with ASEAN Records for First and Deepest Outdoor Live Radio Broadcast Conducted Underwater in Open Sea

Hot FM has once again pushed the boundaries of radio broadcasting, this time earning a prestigious place in the ASEAN Records for achieving the First and Deepest Outdoor Live Radio Broadcast Conducted Underwater in Open Sea by Radio Personalities — reaching a depth of 10 meters with a broadcast duration of 90 minutes.

Following last year’s “Bekpes Hot Tawan Puncak Kinabalu” campaign, which earned a Malaysia Book of Records title for the Longest Non-Stop Mountain Radio Broadcast on Mount Kinabalu, the Bekpes Hot team — comprising popular hosts Khairy Jamaluddin, Johan, Farah Fauzana & AG Azmeer — took on a daring new challenge: scuba diving to the seabed of Pulau Bidong while broadcasting live to listeners nationwide.

Broadcasting Beneath the Waves

The historic feat began at 10:00 AM from the Marine Research Station of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), with support from the UMT Diving School and the Special Actions Unit (UTK) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). After a meticulous descent into open waters, the broadcast successfully concluded at 12:30 PM, marking a first-of-its-kind achievement in Asia.

Pushing Boundaries in Radio Broadcasting

Senior Content Director of Hot FM, Raja Khairil Idris Raja Aznan, said:

“After conquering Malaysia’s highest peak, we wanted to challenge convention once again — this time by venturing into the ‘silent world’ beneath the sea. This challenge reflects the fighting spirit, courage, and innovation that define Hot FM’s DNA. It’s how we stay relevant and close to the hearts of our listeners.”

UMT Programme Director, Associate Professor Dr. Hasrizal Shaari, added:

“This collaboration underscores the media industry’s confidence in UMT’s expertise in marine sciences and scuba diving. It also elevates Pulau Bidong’s profile nationally, creating a unique and historic underwater broadcasting experience.”

Making Regional History

The campaign made waves across 10 Asian countries as the first-ever live radio broadcast from the seabed in open sea. Adding to the symbolic achievement, Hot FM installed a microphone-shaped monument and mini underwater studio — contributing to marine ecosystem preservation while leaving a lasting mark of this historic moment.

This accomplishment demonstrates Hot FM’s ability to blend entertainment, adventure, and cutting-edge broadcast technology in ways never before attempted in the region, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in the radio industry.
