ASEAN Records proudly celebrated a new chapter of regional excellence during the 10th Gather of Achievers – ASEAN Records & ASIA Records Gala Night 2026, held on 20 October 2026 at Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown.

The prestigious evening brought together more than 400 distinguished guests, including government leaders, ambassadors, diplomatic representatives, senior police officers, business leaders, media partners and record holders, in a celebration of measurable achievements across Southeast Asia and the wider Asian region.

Across both recognition platforms, the Gala Night celebrated 205 records, comprising 62 newly presented records and 143 records achieved by 83 current record holders over the past year.

The occasion highlighted the determination, innovation and commitment of businesses, organisations and individuals whose verified accomplishments continue to contribute to regional development.

The Gala Night was graced by Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Seri Setia Dr. Haji Mohd Ali bin Mohd Rustam, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka, as the Guest of Honour.

In a memorable opening, HONOR humanoid robots led Tuan Yang Terutama’s Grand March-In into the ballroom, accompanied by dancers in traditional cultural costumes, symbolising the connection between technological innovation and cultural heritage.

One of the evening’s highlights was the opportunity for guests to witness two live record attempts, with performances assessed and verified directly before the audience.

The UNITREE 宇树 G1 Humanoid Robot Team, featuring the G1 humanoid robot developed by Chinese robotics company Unitree, attempted the following ASIA Records title:

Most Punches by a Humanoid Robot in Two Rounds of Pad Work (90 punches, 40 seconds per round, 20 October 2026, Kuala Lumpur)

Operating autonomously, the humanoid robot demonstrated its punching capabilities across two timed rounds of pad work. The attempt was witnessed by Mr Cruise Tan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of FEBA Fight, who served as Official Technical Witness. The recognition certificate was received by Mr Lim Jie Yi of D’Concept.

Meanwhile, Liew Mun Fung (Kimmy Liew) of Galaxy Event combined the traditional performing art of face-changing with magic in a live performance assessed for both ASEAN Records and ASIA Records, achieving the following title:

Fastest Synchronised Multi-Face Changes Alternated with Magic by a Single Performer (7 rounds, each a different magic trick followed by 6 masks changing together, completed in 107 seconds)

The performance involved seven rounds, each featuring a different magic trick followed by six synchronised mask changes, demonstrating the coordination, speed and precision required for the attempt.

Both performances offered guests a firsthand view of how record attempts are measured and documented against defined criteria, reinforcing the importance of evidence-based verification.

Special Artist Recognition Celebrates Musical Excellence

The evening also featured special artist recognition for Malaysian singer-songwriter Wee Meng Chee (Namewee), celebrating his achievements in original songwriting, multilingual music composition and creative expression.

Strengthening Credibility Through ISO 9001:2015 Certification

During the Founders’ Address, Gillian Ooi and Eldrick Koh announced that ASEAN Records and ASIA Records had achieved ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certification by SGS.

The certification carries accreditation from UKAS and Standards Malaysia (DSM) and covers the organisations’ processes for researching, verifying and adjudicating record applications.

The record-setting publication, “The World Has Heard Us: The Rising Voices of 300 ASEAN Women,” brings together 375 self-submitted real-life stories, with each contributor sharing one personal account.

Initiated on 13 May 2025, the project completed its story collection on 15 August 2026, surpassing its original target of 300 contributors. Its first edition was printed in 2026.

The publication features women from different generations, cultural backgrounds and life experiences, reflecting individual journeys of personal growth, challenges, achievements and aspirations.

By preserving these experiences in a single book, the initiative provides a platform for women’s voices to be documented, recognised and shared with future generations.

Season Optical surpassed the 1,000-pair milestone during a single three-day warehouse sale, recording 1,111 frames and sunglasses sold within 36 operating hours.

Running from 25 to 27 September, the sale incorporated a live public sales tally, allowing the accumulating count to be followed throughout the event before the final figure was announced at its close.

The combination of a single venue, defined operating period, publicly tracked sales count and final verified total formed the measurable foundation of the ASEAN Records achievement.

Growing from Johor to 26 Outlets Nationwide

Season Optical opened its first outlet in 2015 and has since expanded to 26 outlets nationwide, growing from its Johor roots into a wider Malaysian optical retail network.

First and Largest Jade-Inlaid Relief Wall Mural Depicting the Propagation of Humanistic Buddhism
(355.74 m² measuring 36.3 m long and 9.8 m high, 420 sculpted figures across three thematic zones, completed 2018)

Located within the Main Shrine Hall of Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si in Johor Bahru, the monumental jade-inlaid relief mural presents the principles, teachings and development of Humanistic Buddhism through an extensive composition of religious figures, historical scenes and cultural symbolism.

Measuring 355.74 m², the artwork combines large-scale jade craftsmanship with Buddhist cultural expression, creating a distinctive visual representation of Humanistic Buddhism within Southeast Asia.

A Monumental Expression of Humanistic Buddhism

Spanning 36.3 metres in length and 9.8 metres in height, the mural known as the “Illustration of the Propagation of Humanistic Buddhism” (人间佛教行化图) occupies a prominent position within the Main Shrine Hall of Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si.

The composition incorporates 420 sculpted figures across three thematic zones, presenting Buddhist imagery alongside scenes reflecting the development and practical application of Humanistic Buddhism.

Its imagery encompasses Buddhist worlds, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, disciples and other figures, while also portraying the work of Fo Guang Shan in areas including education, Dharma propagation, environmental advocacy, disaster relief and community service.

Elements representing Malaysia are also incorporated into the artwork, including the hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower, connecting the mural’s Buddhist narrative with its Malaysian setting.

Crafted from More Than 20 Varieties of Natural Coloured Jade

Beyond its dimensions, the mural is distinguished by the materials and craftsmanship involved in its creation.

The artwork was produced using more than 20 varieties of natural coloured jade, carefully selected and inlaid to form its figures, landscapes, architectural elements and symbolic imagery.

With a reported total weight of approximately 42 metric tonnes, the mural required an extensive production process involving hand-drawn design, computer modelling, mould creation, carving, detailed sculpting, decoration, polishing and final assembly.

The work took approximately two years to complete, bringing together dozens of craftspeople in a large-scale collaborative artistic undertaking before its completion in 2018.

Preserving Buddhist Art, Culture and Education

The mural embodies the principles of Humanistic Buddhism promoted by Fo Guang Shan and its founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, particularly the integration of Buddhist teachings into everyday life and society.

Through its extensive visual narrative, the artwork reflects Fo Guang Shan’s four major objectives: promoting Buddhism through culture, fostering talent through education, benefiting society through charity, and purifying the human mind through spiritual practice.

Its placement within Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si also complements the temple’s wider role as a centre for Buddhist faith, education, culture, meditation and community engagement.

By bringing these principles together through monumental jade artistry, the mural serves simultaneously as a religious artwork, cultural narrative and educational medium for visitors.

ASEAN Records recognition was officially presented on 26 September 2026 at Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, during the temple’s Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.

The recognition was received on stage by Venerable Ru Bin, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan (Malaysia) Hsingma Si, representing the temple’s leadership and its continued efforts in preserving and promoting Humanistic Buddhism through culture, education, and religious art.

The presentation was witnessed by YB Ling Tian Soon, Johor State Executive Councillor (EXCO) for Health and Environment.

Reflecting on the recognition, Venerable Ru Bin, Abbess of Fo Guang Shan (Malaysia) Hsingma Si, shared:

“Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si was made possible through the collective efforts and support of many people over the years. This recognition is therefore not only about the scale of the jade mural, but also about the many causes and conditions that came together to make Hsingma Si what it is today.

This recognition of its monumental jade mural is something worth celebrating, and it gives us another meaningful cultural attraction to introduce to both local visitors and visitors from neighbouring countries.

About Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si

Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si is a Buddhist cultural, educational and spiritual centre located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, serving communities in Southern Malaysia and neighbouring Singapore.

Its origins in Johor Bahru trace back to Buddhist initiatives established during the 1990s. Following years of planning and development, construction of the present temple officially commenced in 2014, and in June 2015, Venerable Master Hsing Yun named the temple “Fo Guang Shan Hsingma Si.”

Designed as a multifunctional Buddhist cultural and educational centre, Hsingma Si includes a Main Shrine Hall, classrooms, art gallery, library, cultural spaces, meditation facilities and other community-oriented spaces.
